Virginia woman wanted for ‘heinous’ triple homicide arrested after high-speed police chase in NY

A Virginia woman wanted for the triple murder of three roommates was arrested in New York on Thursday after a high-speed police chase, police said.

Alyssa Jane Venable, 23, was on the run after killing two men and a woman at a Spotsylvania County home on Tuesday. The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said all three were found with blunt force trauma and described the crime as “heinous.”

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said Venable was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service and New York State Police on Interstate 86 in Steuben County after he refused to stop for police.

According to police, around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, New York State Police spotted a gray 2009 Honda Civic matching the vehicle Venable was allegedly driving and attempted to stop him, but he refused, sparking a pursuit that reached speeds of up to 100 mph.

Police deployed a tire deflation device and crashed the vehicle, allowing them to arrest Venable. She was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. Homicide detectives had warned the public that Venable was armed and dangerous.

The suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer allegedly has more victims and locations to search than police originally thought.

The victims, Robert John McGuire, 77, Gregory Scott Powell, 60, and Carol Ann Reese, 65, were found by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office around 10 p.m. Tuesday after deputies were called to a home in the 10500 block of White Street Court for a welfare check.

New York State Police are executing a fugitive warrant for Venable and are processing his extradition.

Venable was wanted on three counts of second-degree murder and one count of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

It is unclear whether Venable is related to the victims, or what that relationship might be.

Neighbors told NBC Washington that the home’s occupants were quiet and secluded, and they believe Venable may have moved into the house about a month ago.

Venable was charged last month with misdemeanor assault and battery, NBC reported. The sheriff’s office has not said whether that incident is related to Tuesday night’s triple homicide, but it will be the subject of an investigation.
