Tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is reportedly announcing his candidacy for Ohio governor, after Republican Gov. Mike DeWine announced his candidate to replace U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance.
Mr. Ramaswamy, a Cincinnati native, had been actively pursuing a Senate seat, but Mr. DeWine announced Friday that he would choose Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, Politico reported.
Officials say his gubernatorial announcement has already been drafted and ready.
Ramaswamy plans to announce his candidacy for governor soon, two people familiar with the matter said. to the Washington Post.
The 39-year-old ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, but later endorsed President-elect Donald Trump. He and billionaire Elon Musk were chosen by President Trump to run the new Office of Government Expenditure Accountability, known as DOGE, in the new administration.

Sources identified as Ohio insiders say his gubernatorial announcement is already drafted and ready.
The entrepreneur may have lost support from anti-immigrant factions in the Republican Party for his involvement in the H-1B visa debate. He and Musk argued that visas are critical to maintaining Silicon Valley's dominance in the technology industry.
“For too long (at least since the '90s, and probably longer), our American culture has worshiped mediocrity over excellence,” Ramaswamy wrote. “More math tutoring, less sleepovers. More weekend science contests, less Saturday morning cartoons. More books, less TV. More creative activities, less 'chilling.' It has decreased. More extracurricular activities and less “hanging out at the mall.” ”
DeWine is term-limited as governor. Ohio's next gubernatorial election is scheduled for November 2026.
Representatives from Mr. Ramaswamy's office did not respond to requests for comment from The Post. He has never held elected office.
