Rangers Secure Overtime Win Against Stars
After more than an hour of play, the Rangers clinched a victory on their home ice Tuesday evening.
Vladislav Gavrikov netted the game-winner just over a minute into overtime, leading to a 3-2 win against the Blueshirts.
The Stars took the lead in the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie when captain JT Miller mishandled the puck across the ice.
This slip allowed Dallas to have a 2-on-1 rush, where Wyatt Johnson delivered a backhand pass to Miko Rantanen, who scored his 11th goal of the season behind Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin, putting the Stars ahead 2-1.
The Rangers fought back, unleashing 20 shots on Stars goalie Casey DeSmith, which eventually led to the tying goal.
Will Quill capitalized on a rebound to score his goal, sending the game into overtime.
Throughout the first two periods, the teams matched up well.
Each team found the net once on ten shots in the opening 20 minutes, with both registering eleven shots in the second period.
They exchanged power plays too, with the Rangers technically securing five points and enjoying three additional man advantages over the Stars.
In the absence of Adam Fox, the Rangers’ power play featured five forwards but only managed four shots in their first three opportunities.
Despite having seven shots during a four-minute power play, they couldn’t convert after Sam Steele injured Alexis Lafreniere, prompting a strong penalty call.
Although their penalty kill worked efficiently, there were inconsistent moments during the power plays.
Dallas also lost star forward Tyler Seguin early in the match due to a collision with Gavrikov in the first period.
This incident further depleted the Stars’ lineup, which was already missing defenseman Thomas Hurley.
