Von Miller Joins the Dallas Cowboys for His 15th NFL Season
Von Miller, an accomplished eight-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion, is set to join the Dallas Cowboys as he begins his 15th season in the NFL. While the specifics of the contract haven’t been disclosed yet, Miller confirmed his signing with a post on X, enthusiastically declaring, “Dallas! Let’s make this special!” alongside an edited image of himself in a Cowboys uniform.
DeMarcus Ware, a Cowboys legend who shares a history with Miller from their time together at the Denver Broncos, expressed his excitement by sharing a screenshot of a FaceTime call where both were smiling, captioning it with “#CowboysNation.”
Miller previously secured the Super Bowl 50 MVP title during a memorable game against the Carolina Panthers. Last season, he played for the Washington Commanders and recorded nine sacks while amassing a total of 26 tackles over 17 games, marking his fourth stint in the NFL.
This new chapter will see Miller facing off against the Commanders and other NFC East rivals as he dons the Cowboys colors. His achievements make him a likely Hall of Fame inductee and a two-time first-team All-Pro selection, currently tied for ninth all-time with Ware at 138.5 career sacks.
This signing feels especially significant for Miller, who is returning to his roots. Born in DeSoto, Texas, he starred at DeSoto High School before drawing attention while playing for the Texas A&M Aggies. The Broncos initially selected him as the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, and now he’s heading to Dallas, which is just under an hour away from where he grew up.
For the Cowboys, acquiring Miller fits into a broader strategy since trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last year. The team has been on the lookout for an adept pass rusher ever since. During the previous season, the Cowboys managed only 31 sacks, landing them in the lower tier of the league in that category. They also allowed the third-most yards and highest points per game among all NFL teams.
This offseason, Dallas has acquired several defensive players, including Rashan Gary, a former Packers linebacker, alongside new picks like Ohio State safety Caleb Downs and linebacker Malachi Lawrence from UCF. The organization’s focus has been on enhancing the defense while maintaining the offensive effectiveness they showcased in the previous year, where they ranked second in total yardage.
Yet, one might wonder, can Miller truly replicate or even surpass the contributions lost with Parsons’ departure? That remains to be seen. If he can return to form, the future Hall of Famer could bring that extra spark to the Cowboys as he joins his new teammates.
