VP Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff has awkward interaction with Steph Curry after Team USA’s thrilling comeback

The U.S. men’s basketball team fell behind by as many as 17 points in a game against Serbia at the Paris Olympics on Thursday.

Curry finished with a team-high 36 points, just one shy of the most points scored by an American player in an Olympic basketball game, which remains held by Carmelo Anthony.

Immediately after greeting Curry, Emhoff made a hand gesture indicating he was trying to make himself heard, even though the NBA superstar was standing just a few feet away.

The U.S. entered the fourth quarter trailing by 13 points, but quickly cut the lead to five with just over seven minutes left in the game.

Serbia took the lead again, but Curry missed his ninth three-pointer to give the U.S. a one-point lead. James then made a reverse layup to give the U.S. a three-point lead. Curry followed suit, making shots from coast to coast to give the U.S. a 91-86 lead with 1 minute, 41 seconds left in the game. The game went on a 14-2 run for the U.S.

Emhoff has made no secret of his basketball fandom — he’s been a Los Angeles Lakers season ticket holder for years — and Vice President Kamala Harris revealed in her 2019 memoir that Emhoff first contacted her via text message during a Lakers game.

“Sports brings us together,” Emhoff said of sports in an interview with The Associated Press in February. “Given what’s going on in the real world, sports is one of the things we can all agree on. Sports brings us together. 20,000 people in one room cheering for the same thing. We can all talk about it. We can talk to our sons, we can talk to our fathers. Sports brings generations together.”
