Vice President Kamala Harris posted a video to X on Thursday praising the ATF’s proposed rule that would require background checks for private gun sales.
President Biden also boasted about the proposed ATF rules Thursday morning.
Breitbart News reports that the ATF’s proposed rule would change the definition of “engaging in the business of selling firearms,” which would allow unlicensed sellers, or civilians, to use state instant criminal records. He explained that he would expand on cases where this is not the case. To sell or transfer a firearm, please check our system (NICS).
In Harris’ video, she argued that expanding background checks would “save lives.” She then continued to call on Congress to pass further gun regulations, including red flag laws, a ban on “assault weapons,” and literally universal background checks.

Harris did not mention that California has banned “assault weapons” since 1989, has had universal background checks since the early 1990s, and has had a red flag law since 2014. Ta. In fact, California has more gun laws than any other state.
Despite this, in 2021, California ranked first among the states with the highest number of mass shootings.
