The World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday rejected a proposal to include Taiwan at the annual World Health Assembly (WHA) meeting currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.
This cold attitude was intended to appease the Chinese Communist Party, which opposes international recognition of Taiwan’s existence as a nation.
Chinese state media praised the WHO for rejecting Taiwan’s invitation to participate as an observer for the eighth consecutive year, again toeing Beijing’s line.
State-run Global Times on monday Applause China told the WHO its “unwavering” commitment to the “One China” principle, a false assertion by Beijing that Taiwan has no legitimate government and that it is a province of China, and acknowledged that “unification” is inevitable.
“We call on some countries to stop distorting and challenging the UN General Assembly. [United Nations General Assembly] “Stop whitewashing and hollowing out Resolution 2758 and the One China Principle, stop politicizing health issues, and stop using the Taiwan issue to interfere in China’s internal affairs. Using Taiwan to contain China will only end in failure,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, scolding the international community for merely considering inviting Taiwan to the World Health Organisation (WHA).
United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 passed it In 1971, the United Nations recognized the Communist government in Beijing as the “sole legitimate government of China.” China frequently cites this resolution when trying to exclude Taiwan from UN activities.

of Global Times He dismissed efforts to include Taiwan in the World Health Assembly (WHA) as a despicable plot by “the United States and some other Western countries” to undermine the “one China principle”.
“This is an extremely dangerous and destructive move, an attempt to sow further division and conflict at the security, economic and social levels of the international community, which will surely be opposed by all peace- and prosperity-loving political forces and countries,” the Communist party newspaper preached.
China’s influence on the WHO is due to the Communist Party’s lie While reporting to the WHO and other global organizations at every stage of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, Taiwan Mounted One of the most effective responses to the pandemic. Taiwanese health authorities lamented Beijing’s political interference prevented the WHO from taking into account the much more accurate data they provided, nor from heeding their warnings about the dangers of the coronavirus.
Taiwan’s Minister of Health, Chiu Tai-yuan woke up The UN, along with a delegation of health experts and lawmakers, visited Geneva on Friday and held a press conference to denounce the injustice of excluding Taiwan from the WHA meeting.
“We call for the international community’s support and urge the WHO to act in line with this year’s WHA theme, ‘Health for All, Health for All’, by including Taiwan as an observer in WHA proceedings and allowing Taiwan to regularly participate in WHO meetings, activities and mechanisms,” Chiu said on Monday.

Vice President Hsiao Bi-chin spoke at a health forum in Taipei on Monday. Claimed There was no logical or legal reason to exclude Taiwan from the WHA, especially since the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic had taught the world the lesson that “no one should be left behind.”
Ignoring Taiwan at the WHA is another diplomatic defeat for the Biden administration. Highly recommended Taiwan maintained observer status with the WHO without major difficulty from 2009 to 2016, but this latest move has seen it reinstated.
What has changed since 2016 is that Taiwan elected President Tsai Ing-wen, who has been roundly criticized by Beijing as a “separatist” because she believes the Communist Party’s tyranny is failing. View Her successor, William Lai Ching-teh, has launched a campaign to diplomatically isolate Taiwan in every way possible, including using its influence at the WHO to block Taiwan’s observer status, a clear violation of medical ethics and scientific principles.
“Taiwan’s extraordinary capabilities and approach will add tremendous value to the WHA’s deliberations. Taiwan has time and again demonstrated its ability and willingness to respond to global health crises and support the global health community,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on May 1.
“Taiwan’s continued exclusion from this preeminent global health forum undermines the comprehensive international public health cooperation and security that the world wants and urgently needs,” Blinken argued.
