Wales have lost 10 Test in a row and if they lose to the Wallabies today it will be their longest-ever run without a win. Last weekend they lost Fiji, a game where Fiji won for the first time in Cardiff. This weekend they face a buoyant Australia team who come into the match after beating England last time out.

The hosts today have also been hit with a few injuries. Mason Grady went off injured last weekend and his ankle issue means he cannot play this afternoon. Tomos Williams has also been ruled out.

main events

11 minutes: Donaldson scores an incredible run, lays it off to Kerevi and it looks like a sure try until Rodgers gets in the way and holds him back. A truly beautiful try-saving tackle.

share

10 minutes: Australia's lineout was clean, but the last pass was not caught, resulting in an out at Wales' lineout. The Men in Red won every lineout last weekend, one of the positives to take from their performance. Anscombe appeared to be in a bit of trouble, but remained on the pitch with what appeared to be a hand injury. This was another good lineout, but then Australia legally collapsed the maul and won a penalty to clear the line.

share

8 minutes: As Wales attack at the end, a cross-field kick goes in and finds Rodgers on the wing, but he can't catch it. Australia opted for a lineout rather than a scrum at the beginning of the match. Before he can play, Beard will need medical treatment and appears to be losing his hair. He's right, Tziunza is on.

share

8 minutes: Aussie attacks continue with some deft hands from Kerevi, but Australia get knocked on again as Wales attack with the upper hand. The kicking game begins and the Wallabies are on the attack again. Possession changes frequently between teams.

share

6 minutes: Rodgers energized the crowd with a run, but then Wales knocked on and they scrummed again. This time, I let Aus in, and my first question came out clean. They try to find Kellaway by kicking down the field, but Wales manage to get it back.

share

4 minutes: Wales' defense was generally good and it paid off once Australia got knocked on and the scrum started. The first scrum is always interesting as it starts to set a precedent for the rest of the match, so teams want to make a good impression on the referee early on. The scrum was right at the bottom and the first two attempts required a reset, but referee James Doleman got the word out to both front rows and they then won a clean set-piece. Wales take this and launch their first attack.

share

2 minutes: Not a clean start from Wales, so Australia have the first attacking set. Visitors move up the pitch in stages.

New matches, new research exploring the current state of Welsh rugby. This time, the hand-wringing is particularly intense as Wales stand on the brink of an unwanted threshold. If they lose to Australia in Cardiff on Sunday, they will surpass their longest losing streak in Tests.

Losing to Fiji last Sunday was upsetting on any level, but the most painful was that it rivaled the losing streak under Steve Hansen, who last collected a wooden spoon in 2002-2003. It was a 10-game losing streak. in the Six Nations.

Until, of course, this year, when after decades of unparalleled success, it achieved new success. Now the Wallabies are suddenly striding into town feeling a little better, having eased their recent woes with a dramatic win against England at Twickenham.

Fiji, Australia, I feel better – these are all words that are painfully familiar to Wales. The recent woes go back several years, but were temporarily alleviated by the World Cup, or at least pool play. Wales rode their good fortune against Fiji in the opening game of the tournament to negotiate a successful deal without incident, before completely crushing Australia. look? easy.

Australian national team head coach Joe Schmidt spoke about Wales' poor performance.: “I think Warren, like any international coach, feels the pressure. He obviously had great success during his previous tenure with Wales.

“He was successful with Wasps and I think anyone can go through lean spells when a team is in transition. Let's take a look at some of the players.

“We've got good players like Adam Beard, Jack Morgan, Tommy Leffell, Aaron Wainwright, Dewi Lake, just to name a few. It takes time to get used to Test rugby. It's part of the transition that Gatz is currently accelerating.”

Some people have doubts Should Warren Gatland remain in charge of the current results? When asked about his expectations for his appointment, the head coach said: “We tried to point out from the beginning that we were going to have to go through some pain. I didn't expect it to hurt this much.

“There were games where we didn’t make it to the finish line, there were games that were close. If a decision was made on what you’re talking about. [Gatland’s future]I'm very comfortable with it. I've been in the game long enough.

“I’m probably going to go back to the beach, have a glass of wine, and enjoy the pressure off!”

It's a heartbreaking statistic for Wales fans. Wales have not won a match since beating Georgia in the pool stages of the 2023 Rugby World Cup. The team is ranked 11th, the lowest in the world rankings, and a loss today would be their worst loss in history. Since Warren Gatland rejoined the team in December 2022, they have won only six of 22 games.
