MSNBC host Nicole Wallace shared her concerns regarding the recent deportation actions taken by the Trump administration, particularly focused on El Salvador.
During an episode of “The Bulwark” podcast, Wallace described the situation as a chilling moment of Trump’s second term. She recalled feeling “stolen” when she encountered an image of a gang member allegedly imprisoned in El Salvador.
“I came across a paid advertisement from Homeland Security featuring a prisoner from CECOT,” she mentioned to host Tim Miller.
In March, President Trump invoked laws regarding alien enemies to facilitate the deportation of members of the Tren de Aragua gang. This prompted backlash from critics who argued that there wasn’t enough evidence to substantiate their connections to the gang.
The Department of Homeland Security defended the deportations, with spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin asserting that those sent to CECOT in El Salvador are indeed “terrorists, human rights abusers, and gang members.” The process, she insisted, follows legal channels.
DHS Executive Director Kristi Noem added in March: “Our Intelligence Reporting Agency contains individuals linked to these organizations, and we trust our collaboration with them.”
However, the deportation policies are facing legal hurdles.
This past April, the U.S. Supreme Court barred the Trump administration from deporting immigrants without allowing them the chance to contest their designation as gang members, an order that was extended in May.
During the interview, Wallace expressed skepticism about the evidence supporting Trump’s deportation efforts, questioning whether those targeted truly belonged to the gang.
“I distinctly remember the initial reports regarding the deportation of Tren de Aragua members to El Salvador, and my reaction,” she stated.
Wallace felt an unsettling fear upon viewing images of a suspected gang member held at CECOT, leading her to criticize how such individuals are treated.
“It genuinely frightens me how human suffering is handled, but ignoring it could lead to even more terrifying consequences,” Wallace remarked.
In response to inquiries, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson commented to Fox News Digital that those opposing the deportations seem “furious” that criminals are being removed from the country, yet they neglect to acknowledge the American victims affected by these dangerous individuals.
