WalletHub lists the states with the highest and lowest patriotism for Independence Day

The 250th anniversary of America and the factors that make the United States unique

J.D. Vance Celebrates 250 Years of American History

Senator J.D. Vance recently addressed troops in Virginia Beach, Virginia, marking a significant 250 years of American heritage. He emphasized that the military embodies the essence of America, standing for the Constitution and the defense of freedom. In his closing remarks, Vance expressed optimism about the future, stating that the next 250 years will be brighter due to the service of these individuals.

Virginia Named Most Patriotic State

In another note, a recent study by personal finance company WalletHub identified Virginia as the most patriotic state in the nation. This assessment considered over a dozen metrics, placing Virginia high on the list due to its military engagement and civic involvement.

According to WalletHub, Virginia hosts about 1,761 active duty military members for every 100,000 civilians, the third-highest ratio in the U.S. Additionally, the state has nearly 103 veterans for every 1,000 civilians, ranking second nationwide.

Insights from WalletHub

WalletHub’s financial writer, Adam McCann, shared insights from the study, highlighting that the research aimed to determine where patriotism is most prevalent in the country, particularly around Independence Day. They assessed states based on various key indicators of patriotism.

For civics, the report noted Virginia’s impressive voter turnout in the 2024 presidential election, where 72.9% of residents participated—much higher than the national average of 66%. Furthermore, Virginia has the fifth-highest number of Peace Corps volunteers per capita and mandates a civic course for high school graduation.

Chip Lupo, an analyst from WalletHub, remarked that patriotism varies across the U.S. and isn’t bound to a particular region. The most patriotic states typically have higher military service rates, elevated election turnout, and significant volunteer involvement in local organizations.

Montana and Other Patriotic States

Montana followed closely, being the second most patriotic state, attributed to its solid voter turnout and high engagement in jury service. The top five also included Vermont, Colorado, and Oregon.

On a less favorable note, Arkansas was reported as the least patriotic state, coming in at 50th place. New York, Louisiana, and Alabama followed behind. Interestingly, the study suggested that states represented by “blue” voters in 2024 tended to score higher in patriotism compared to those that voted for Donald Trump.
