Walz above water but relatively unknown in Pennsylvania: Poll

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) is viewed more positively than negatively by Pennsylvania voters, but he remains a relative unknown to voters in the Keystone State. New poll finds.

A Quinnipiac University poll found that Held from August 8th to 12thIn a poll by the Democratic Party of Pennsylvania, 36% of voters in Pennsylvania said they viewed the Democratic vice presidential nominee “favorably.” In the same poll, 29% of Pennsylvania voters said they viewed Walz “unfavorably,” and 35% said they had “not heard enough” about the Minnesota governor.

Harris announced Walz as her running mate last week, after he was being touted as her running mate. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) was seen as the Democratic vice presidential frontrunner and some saw him as a possible candidate to improve Harris’ chances of winning the Keystone State. Harris ultimately chose the North Star governor.

According to the poll, about half of Pennsylvania voters said they had no favorable impression of Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio. Forty-five percent of voters viewed Vance “unfavorably,” 35% viewed him “favorably,” and 19% said they had “never heard much” about the Ohio senator.

The Hill/Decision Desk average of Pennsylvania polls has Harris leading former President Trump by just 0.6 percentage points. A recent New York Times/Siena College poll found Harris leading in Pennsylvania by 4 points.

The Quinnipiac University poll included 1,738 people who described themselves as likely voters and has a sampling margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
