Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, is “very much a centrist.”
“Tim Walz is great. She had a lot of good choices out of six and out of two,” Pelosi said. “I’m a big fan of Governor Shapiro. I know Tim Walz very well. He served in the House. It’s unrealistic to describe him as left-wing. … He’s very center. He’s a Democrat from the heartland of America. And he was chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee. I don’t want anybody to forget that, because he made tremendous progress for our veterans. Working with our colleagues on the Appropriations Committee and with the chairmen, under his leadership, we made more progress since the GI Bill was enacted than we’ve ever made in the history of our country. He served 25 years in the National Guard, the longest tenure of any enlisted man. [who has] “He’s someone who has never served in the U.S. Congress, so he brings national security credentials. He also brings rural credentials and will thrive in rural America.”
She added, “[R]In fact, it was puzzling to me to see someone I worked with who was, sort of, in the middle, being characterized as leftist in this regard. Obviously, he has her trust.”
