Walz Stolen Valor Charge Is ‘Deflection’ from Gun Control Discussion

During Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Laura Coates Live,” host Laura Coates addressed her criticism of Gov. Tim Walz (D), the 2024 Democratic vice presidential nominee. To tell “I can assure you that the weapons of war that I carried in the war are the only place those weapons are kept,” he said, “is an evasion, because the topic he was discussing was gun control and gun violence and common sense control.”

Former Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA), an Iraq War veteran, said Vance should not have attacked other veterans and said Walz had made “one small mistake” in the thousands of speeches and interviews he has given, and that Walz was talking about the weapons he trained with, but “what’s frustrating” is that Walz was “not talking about his military service, but taking a broader view that these weapons of war should not have a place in our schools to kill our kids or shoot a former president, that they’re wrong.”

Coats responded, “I’m so glad you pointed that out. It’s actually a red herring, because what he was talking about was gun control and gun violence and common sense control. What’s being brought up instead is something completely different from what he actually stood for. This is something that matters so much to so many Americans, especially to all the parents out there, like me, who are preparing their kids, their elementary school kids, for a new school year where they’re going to have to deal with mass shooters first.” [drill] In our school.”

Murphy nodded at Coates’ comments.
