Walz viewed more favorably than Vance: Survey

A new poll shows that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (Democrat), recently selected as Harris’ running mate, is viewed more favorably than former President Donald Trump’s Republican pick for vice president, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.

of ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos Poll In the poll released Friday, 39% of respondents said they had a “very” or “somewhat” positive view of Walz. In contrast, 32% of those surveyed said they had a “very” or “somewhat” positive view of Vance.

Additionally, 30 percent said they had a “strongly” or “somewhat” unfavorable view of the Minnesota governor, and 42 percent said they had a “strongly” or “somewhat” unfavorable view of the Ohio senator.

Waltz’s selection of Harris as his running mate earlier this month came after weeks of confusion within the Democratic Party over whether President Biden should remain the front-runner. In July, Biden gave up on reelection and endorsed Harris.

Gov. Vance has recently criticized Gov. Walz’s military record, and the governor fired back Tuesday, saying he is “very proud of my service to this country.”

The latest poll also found that just over half of respondents (52%) said they “strongly” or “somewhat” approved of Waltz’s selection as Harris’ running mate, while 45% said they “strongly” or “somewhat” approved of Vance’s selection to join Trump on the Republican ticket.

The ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll was conducted Aug. 9-13 with 2,336 respondents and a sampling margin of error of 2 percentage points.
