Medicare Open Registration Alerts in Rochester, NY
ROCHESTER, NY – Next week marks the start of the Medicare Open Registration period. Local recipients are receiving letters indicating a lack of Medicare benefits, as reported by News10NBC. This has coincided with insurance companies making modifications or withdrawing their plans.
“It’s important to research and understand the plans available in your area,” noted Dr. Rhonda Randall, Chief Medical Officer at UnitedHealthcare.
According to UnitedHealthcare’s website, options for Medicare Advantage in 2025 are listed, but there are no plans for 2026 in this region, as UnitedHealthcare has decided to withdraw them. Only individuals with dual coverage or Medicaid can still access options with United. Plans for UnitedHealthcare Med Supp and Standalone Part D prescriptions are still available.
When questioned about the rationale behind the decision to eliminate Advantage plans across 109 counties, Randall expressed, “I’m not really the best person to explain those business choices.” Later, a spokesperson for UnitedHealthcare explained to News10NBC that the company is focused on ensuring long-term affordability and stability for its Medicare Advantage services moving forward, while also helping members through any necessary transitions.
A revenue call on September 30 disclosed that government payment cuts related to specific conditions could potentially lead to a $4 billion decrease in insurance profits.
MVP continues to offer Medicare benefits, though it appears that costs in the region are set to significantly rise in 2025. Current premiums, which are $39 or $93.40, are expected to jump to $160 or $229 per month in 2026. Furthermore, free plans will no longer cover dental or eye care.
Andy Spadoni, senior director of MVP’s market strategy, addressed concerns about increasing costs, stating, “I point to rising healthcare landscapes, higher care costs, and escalating prescription drug prices.”
Non-profit insurance organizations like MVP and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield have also made adjustments that impact reimbursement rates. Just last week, News10NBC highlighted how changes in Excellus BlueCross BlueShield’s Medicare Advantage policies are affecting seniors.
