Georgia wildlife officials have issued a warning after a deer with chronic wasting disease (CWD) was discovered in Lanier County.
WSB-TV explained CWD as a “fatal neurological disease affecting deer, elk, and moose.” There is no treatment for the disease, and animals that eventually become infected “may develop symptoms such as dramatic weight loss, poor body condition, subtle head tremors, and drooping heads and ears.” ”
In the final stages of the disease, the animal may also droop excessively.
Lanier is near Georgia's border with Florida, and the discovery of the infected deer comes a year after warnings about CWD in Florida deer released.
At this time, Georgia wildlife officials are still encouraging Georgians to hunt as usual.
“Georgia Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Walter Labon said: We work with our hunters and all Georgians to manage CWD and maintain a healthy deer herd. ”
March 8, 2024 daily mail is attracting attention “Colorado experts warn that up to three-thirds of deer in certain areas of the state may be infected.”
