Warren amazed by Ron Guidry during Yankees' Old-Timers' Day

Will Warren had quite the experience during his first Major League day, especially given his past loss to the Rockies as last year’s starter. This season, he was relieved to find that Old Timers Day coincided with a regular training day for him. On Saturday, he could focus on his bullpen session and enjoy chatting with Yankees legends from the past.

Among the highlights of the day were interactions with icons like Ron Guidry, Andy Pettitte, Bernie Williams, and Roger Clemens. Warren, a 26-year-old rookie, relished these moments, reflecting on their journeys in the majors.

He had met many of these players during spring training—Pettitte often offers him guidance—but actually playing alongside them was something special. Watching them in action provided him with a unique perspective.

“It was amazing to see them play,” Warren remarked about the 74-year-old Guidry. “I was like, ‘Wow, I hope to do that at his age.’”

Warren found himself absorbing the atmosphere more than any particular piece of advice, but he did get encouragement from these greats, telling him to keep pushing forward.

As for the future, one can’t help but wonder if Will Warren will someday find himself as an old-timer, too.

“If they could overlook my mistakes,” he joked with a grin.

Overall, the day went well, though there was one tough moment.

Mariano Rivera, who had planned to shake hands with fans and former players, is set for surgery next week.

“It’s unfortunate,” commented manager Aaron Boone about his old teammate. “I’ve never seen him like this, but I know he’s got that Mo spirit. Looking forward to his rehab.”
