Warren Barton injured after being struck by a sharp object during a frightening moment at the World Cup

Unexpected Incident During World Cup Commentary

It certainly left an impression.

During the Colombia versus Uzbekistan match, Warren Burton found himself hit in the face by a stray bottle while providing commentary on Colombia’s 3-1 victory. He reportedly bled from the forehead, sharing his experience with a photo on X, saying, “It was a great game tonight, except for the bottle that hit me.”

Burton’s commentary partner, Jackie Autry, also shared a photo highlighting the situation, offering further insights into the incident. “That was unusual,” she commented on X. “While commenting on a goal, I got doused in beer—actually kind of refreshing—but poor @warrenbarton22 got hit in the head by a flying bottle! I heard the thud and turned to see blood flowing from his forehead.”

Fans in attendance noted they could hear a loud bang as the bottle struck Burton’s headset late in the game. Even amidst the chaos, the seasoned commentator pushed through and completed the broadcast.

“He’s fine,” Autry reassured viewers afterward.

Interestingly, Autry herself had mentioned earlier in the game about getting hit as well, saying, “You’re dripping blood, I’m not kidding.”

The unexpected events didn’t stop with Burton’s injury. A cameraman covering the match also faced trouble when he apparently injured his ankle and didn’t return.

Autry pointed out, “He must have really hurt his ankle.”

As for Burton’s injury, it’s still uncertain if he needed stitches or anything similar.

In the midst of it all, Barton managed to keep a lighthearted approach, laughing off the incident later: “I know, I know. It was okay. It was good. Whatever it was, it was sharp.”
