Warren Buffett and Stephen Curry Team Up for Charity Lunch
Warren Buffett is reviving his well-known charity lunch, partnering with basketball icon Stephen Curry to spend time with those who win the auction.
Bidding on eBay starts on May 7 and runs until May 14. The fortunate bidder can bring along up to seven guests to enjoy a meal with Buffett, Curry, and his wife, Ayesha, on June 24 in Omaha, Nebraska—home to Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway.
Funds raised will benefit two charities, the Glide Foundation and eat. learn. play. Buffett mentioned he would match the total donation made by the winning bidder.
The Glide Foundation aids the poor and homeless in San Francisco’s Tenderloin area, while eat. learn. play, founded by Stephen and Ayesha Curry, promotes nutritious meals and children’s literacy.
This auction might attract attention due to Curry’s popularity—he’s a four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP. Buffett describes him as “a hero to millions.”
In a joint statement, the Currys expressed hope that the auction could provide support for local students and families, noting, “Access can open doors, but what matters most is what you do with it.”
At 95, Buffett has donated nearly all of his wealth to charity, believing that businesses and nonprofits can join forces for positive change.
Buffett got involved with Glide through his first wife, Susan, who volunteered there. After her passing in 2004, Buffett continued his support.
Glide was led for many years by Cecil Williams, who passed away in 2024, and his wife Janice Mirikitani, who died in 2021. Williams also served as the pastor of Glide Memorial Church.
Buffett previously raised approximately $53.2 million for Glide across 21 auctions from 2000 to 2022, with the highest bidder in the last auction paying an astonishing $19 million, setting a record.
Buffett, who stepped down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway on January 1, is now its chairman, continuing to advocate for the value he sees in every individual, stating, “He never gave up on anyone.”
