Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has agreed to a contract extension that makes him the highest-paid coach in NBA history.
His contract extension with the Warriors, which begins after this season, is for two years and totals $35 million. According to a report Friday by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The extension keeps Kerr in Golden State until 2025-26, which happens to be when star Stephen Curry’s contract ends.
Kerr was hired after the Warriors moved on from Mark Jackson following a controversial 2013-14 season that saw them go 51-31.
The Warriors’ new head coach at the time led the team to an NBA championship in his first year, leading the team to a 67-15 victory over Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala. I didn’t come close with a loss. He was recognized for his defensive work against LeBron James and the Cavaliers.
Kerr led the Dubs to three more titles, most recently against the Celtics in 2022.
The Warriors, who won 97-84 on Friday, are 10th in the Western Conference with a record of 29 wins and 26 losses.
Carr’s regular season record is 502 wins and 264 losses, which equates to a winning percentage of .656.
Curry is scheduled to make $55.7 million next season and $59.6 million in 2025-26, the last season of his current contract. According to Spotrac.
He had 15 points and five assists in Friday’s win.
