The Golden State Warriors waived point guard Chris Paul on Sunday as NBA free agency began.
Paul, a 12-time All-Star, is now a free agent and free to choose which team he wants to sign with. The Warriors acquired Paul last season in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards that sent Jordan Poole to the Eastern Conference.

But things didn’t always work out for Paul in Golden State.
He averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 58 games played, including the 2022-23 season with the Phoenix Suns, and the first time he has played in fewer than 60 games since the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons with the Houston Rockets.

Paul is regarded as one of the best point guards in the NBA since he entered the league in 2005. He is the all-time leader in assists among active players with 11,894. Paul and LeBron James are the only players with at least 11,000 career assists.
He may also be the best modern player never to win an NBA championship. While with the Suns, he appeared in the 2021 NBA Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks and came close to winning the championship. The Bucks won the series in six games.
