Washington D.C. is set to hold the 2027 NFL Draft.

2027 NFL Draft Coming to Washington, D.C.

President Donald Trump revealed that the National Football League (NFL) will be hosting its 2027 draft in Washington, D.C., marking the first time the capital has held this event since 1940.

On Monday, alongside NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris, and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Trump announced that the draft will take place at the National Mall, a site known for its iconic government buildings, museums, and monuments. The Mall often serves as a grand stage for national events and celebrations.

“We are pleased to announce that the 2027 NFL Draft will be held at the National Mall in our country’s capital, Washington, D.C.,” Trump stated.

This announcement follows the recent agreement that allows the Washington Commanders to return to RFK Stadium, where the team enjoyed significant success during its time there from 1961 to 1996. A new stadium at this location is expected to open in 2030.

Since the NFL transitioned away from hosting drafts in New York after 2015, the events have been held in various cities. Most recently, the three-day 2025 draft took place last month at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, home of the Packers, while the 2026 draft for college players is set for Pittsburgh.
