Washington DC 911 call center offers $800 bonuses to entice employees to show up to work

A Washington, DC, 911 call center is reportedly offering $800 bonuses to employees who show up to all scheduled shifts after a series of staffing and systems issues.

NBC4 Washington On Tuesday, Heather McGuffin, director of the Office of Unified Communications (OUC), reportedly sent an email to staff announcing the bonuses, noting that the offers would begin “immediately.”

“Good morning 911 team. Effective immediately, all 911 staff who show up to all scheduled shifts will be paid an $800 incentive this month,” the email reportedly said.

“Staffing is critical to our success, and we’ve seen an increase in unscheduled call-outs of all kinds, putting a strain on our fellow employees who are constantly being grounded, asked to come in early, and asked to come in on their days off,” the company continued. “This pilot is simple: show up to your assigned shift and you’ll get an extra $800 for the month. It starts today for August.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to McGuffin for comment.

The news comes after several staffing shortage issues that have worsened in recent months. OUC websiteIn July, 58 of 66 shifts missed staffing targets, while in June, 31 of 65 shifts were understaffed.

This is a big improvement from May, when 16 of the 66 shifts were understaffed.

According to NBC4, OUC has also had serious problems with its internal computer system, which has crashed six times since May. Earlier this month, the computer shut down during a radio call about a 5-month-old baby going into cardiac arrest. The baby later died.
