Damond Williams Jr. Enters Transfer Portal After Signing with Washington
The college football transfer portal is always buzzing, and now, Damond Williams Jr. has added a twist to the conversation.
Just days after reaching an agreement to return to the University of Washington, Williams made a surprising announcement on Tuesday via an Instagram post. He stated that he plans to enter the transfer portal.
Interestingly, both ESPN and The Athletic have reported that the Huskies intend to uphold the contract he signed. It’s a complicated situation, and schools may even explore legal avenues if necessary.
In his announcement, Williams expressed gratitude towards his teammates, coaches, and fans but concluded with a strong message. “I have to do what’s best for me and my future,” he wrote. “After much thought and prayer, I am entering the transfer portal.”
Reportedly, Williams had not submitted any official documents about his intention to leave Washington before making the Instagram announcement.
This unexpected move creates a potentially uncomfortable scenario for the Huskies, especially after a season where he threw for 3,065 yards, achieved 25 touchdowns, had eight interceptions, and maintained a 69.5 percent completion rate.
There’s a bit of precedent for situations like this in college football, as defensive back Xavier Lucas transferred from Wisconsin to Miami back in early 2025, despite being under contract with the Badgers.
In that case, Wisconsin didn’t list Lucas in the transfer portal, which allowed him to leave Madison for Miami. Subsequently, Wisconsin even filed a lawsuit against Miami, claiming tampering—a rare occurrence in this context.
However, Lucas completed the entire season with the Hurricanes, making one interception, one sack, and logging 41 tackles.
