The Washington State Sheriff’s Office said it received a strange phone call last week from a would-be Bigfoot hunter.

The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office withheld the identity of the caller when it posted about the incident on Facebook on March 19th. Although the exact transcript of the call was not shared, the department released staff notes of the exchange that shed light on the situation.

”[The caller] “He plans to be in the area in mid-April and hopes to hunt in the Big Meadow Lake area,” the office quoted him as saying in the memo.

Apparently, the caller had contacted another state agency and was able to get back to them right away.

“I tried to refer him to the Fish and Wildlife Service and they referred him to us,” the employee said.

The law-conscious hunter questioned the legality of hunting Sasquatch, a mythical ape-like creature that roams the Pacific Northwest.

“Mr. [redacted] Concerns about how to stay legal while hunting [in] “Due to unclear state regulations regarding Sasquatch hunting, access to the Big Meadow Lake area is required,” the Facebook post quoted.

”[He] What you need to know: 1. Is it illegal to shoot a Sasquatch in Stevens County? 2. Is a regular hunting license enough to keep his Sasquatch hunting legal?”

The caller appeared to be chivalrous during the call.

”[The caller] “Of course, we do not hunt or shoot female Sasquatch,” the employee said.

“If I don’t hear from someone today, I’ll call again tomorrow.”

At the end of a social media post, the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office clarified its response.

“So, our patrol chief called investigators back and gave them two important pieces of information: Meadow Lake is within the jurisdiction of the Pend Oreilles County Sheriff, and we have more information on the case. “There is,” the department said.

“2. There are no Sasquatch in Stevens County. We know this because one of our deputies would have accidentally run over a Sasquatch with his patrol car by now!”

The Facebook post was amused by residents in the area, some of whom believed the Sasquatch was real.

“There’s definitely Sasquatch in Stevens County lol,” one person said.

Another commenter wrote, “I really liked your answer. I’m sure other county offices will do the same.”

Another Facebook user joked: “He’s pretty naive to think he can hunt them. Once word gets out, the exact opposite will happen.”
