A Detroit pastor delivered a glowing blessing Monday at the conclusion of President Donald Trump's inauguration. The pastor quoted the powerful words of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s “I Have a Dream” speech.
Detroit Pastor Lorenzo Sewell gave a moving speech at President Trump's inauguration, often quoting Martin Luther King Jr.'s iconic words on MLK Day.
“We thank you for calling him at a time like this to help America start dreaming again.”
“We know that Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'Let freedom ring,' and we didn't just want to say it, we wanted to pray it,” Sewell was quoted as saying. detroit news. “And now we need to act. The next four years will be a time of liberation.”
“People who are in political bondage, spiritual bondage, emotional bondage, spiritual bondage, whatever bondage they are in, we believe that freedom will come. And this is what our country is about. It will be unified in a way that has never been unified before,” Sewell said. spoke to the crowd.
“I pray that you would use your words to help us live in a nation where we are not judged by the color or the content of our skin, but by the content of our character,” he said, quoting Dr. King's speech at the Lincoln Memorial. According to detroit free pressAt a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Sewell thanked God for the “miracle of millimeters” that saved President Trump from his first assassination attempt.
“We're grateful that you called him at a time like this to help America start dreaming again,” said Sewell, pastor of 180 Church in West Detroit.
After his moving speech, Trump reportedly told Sewell, “You're special. You're very good.”
“He's said that to me before, but obviously it's a very special moment because he's going to be president. This is his time,” Sewell told the Detroit News. ” he said.
Sewell, 43, said it was a “very humbling feeling” that “God is letting us be a part of history.”
Sewell previously hosted a roundtable in Detroit for Trump in June. spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last summer.
Other religious leaders who spoke at President Trump's inauguration included Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, president of Yeshiva University in New York, and Rev. Frank Mann of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn.
