Watch: Harris, Walz court union members in Detroit

Vice President Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) are scheduled to speak at Detroit’s Labor Hall on Thursday to highlight their support for unions, just two days after Harris selected Walz as her running mate.

The two were certified earlier this week as the leading Democratic contenders for November and have been on the campaign trail in recent days, attacking former President Trump and his No. 2, Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio. Harris also leans toward President Biden’s pro-union stance, and voters have largely supported her after Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her.

Ms. Harris secured the endorsement of the AFL-CIO and the United Auto Workers (UAW), the nation’s largest labor federation, with 12.5 million members in 60 different unions. UAW President Sean Fain, who accompanied the Democratic candidate on a campaign tour on Wednesday, praised Ms. Harris as a “champion for the working class.”

The event is scheduled to begin at 3:15 pm EDT.
