House Democratic leaders on Thursday dismissed claims that Vice President Kamala Harris has repeatedly reversed policy.
Fox Business correspondent Hillary Vaughn met with several House Democrats on Capitol Hill and pressed them on whether Harris needs to explain the policy shift.
“I continue to think that these claims about policy shifts are overstated,” Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., told Fox. “As any thoughtful, rational, intelligent person who's been vice president for four years and seen all the issues, you'll see in time that her understanding and her policies will evolve as the facts on the ground change.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) said Harris had already given a full explanation.

“She's the sitting president, the vice president in the Biden administration, which means her responsibility is to help implement the decisions of the president, and then, of course, she's a leader in her own right. So she's able to do both and I think she's doing it very well,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) argued that this line of attack is a hackneyed and false Republican argument, pointing to Sen. J.D. Vance, a one-time “Never Trumper” who is now former President Trump's running mate.

“Tell me why J.D. Vance went from Never Trump to Forever Trump,” Raskin told Fox. “I'm not going to answer for Kamala Harris, OK?”

The comments came days after President Trump slammed Harris during Tuesday night's presidential debate in Philadelphia for abandoning old policies and even adopting some of his own.

During her 2019 presidential campaign, Harris said she opposed fracking, supported decriminalizing the border and abolishing private health insurance. She has now abandoned those three positions.

Democratic Rep. Andre Carson of Indiana argued that Harris was simply changing her position in response to new facts.
“Her thinking hasn't changed. We want people who evolve and grow,” he said.
