Final Season of Summer is Here
The much-anticipated final season of Summer is getting better has arrived. The first two episodes are now available on Prime Video, with the remaining episodes set to release weekly. Fans can expect the series finale to air on September 17th, 2025. One major question looms over this new season.
Opening Scene: We see picturesque views of the town as Belly drives to college with her family. In her narration, she shares that she usually looks forward to summer, but this year the upcoming fall feels more significant due to her boyfriend Jeremiah.
Key Points: This age-old love story is based on Jenny Han’s novel, Summer is getting better. It revolves around Belly (played by Laura Tun) and her childhood best friends, Jeremiah (Gavin Casaregno) and Conrad (Christopher Blin).
The premiere episode, titled “Last Season,” flashes back three years to Belly’s third year in college and Jeremiah’s fourth. As their relationship grows, they start discussing how to handle long distance, particularly after Jeremiah learns he hasn’t completed enough credits to graduate. Meanwhile, Belly is accepted into a study abroad program in Paris but is hesitant to commit since Jeremiah will be at Finch College for another semester. When she eventually opens up to Jeremiah, he supports her decision to go. Everything seems perfect—until rumors circulate at a party about Jeremiah’s connection with someone else, which leaves Belly feeling troubled.
This season emphasizes civil relationships. Belly’s best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer) and her brother Stephen (Shawn Kaufman) are still close, but both now have romantic partners.
Conrad finds himself in San Francisco, where he has made a new friend named Agnes. He’s grappling with his grief over his mother’s passing while also trying to cope with Belly’s absence. However, after discussing his lingering feelings for Belly, he realizes it’s tough to confront her again and decides to call Jeremiah to say he won’t attend the upcoming gathering.
Similar Shows: Summer is getting better is a classic youth drama centered around romantic relationships in a summer backdrop, which might remind viewers of several other series like I’ve Never Been, Sex Life of College Girls, or Outer Banks.
Our Thoughts: In this season, everyone is trying to adapt. The three-year leap shows Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah planning their futures. Conrad seems to be thriving in San Francisco, while Belly and Jeremiah’s relationship appears blissful yet somewhat dependent.
Belly’s mother, Laurel, encourages her not to limit herself in college, but it seems Belly hasn’t entirely heeded that advice. Even three years later, she remains deeply involved with one of the Fisher boys. This dynamic feels a bit old-fashioned; it’s almost reminiscent of stories where women sacrifice their dreams for romantic partners. Belly’s decision surrounding her study abroad option in Paris feels heavily influenced by Jeremiah’s approval. His betrayal only makes things more complicated, leaving fans hoping Belly will focus on herself moving forward.
The cast continues to perform well. Laura Tun has a captivating presence, though she still carries an air of naivety. It will be interesting to see how Jeramiah and Belly adjust to the new reality following his affair. Conrad retains that brooding charm but seems fired up to embrace life after leaving Cousins Beach.
As season three unfolds, the characters find themselves spread across the country. However, the underlying tension suggests that their paths will cross in unexpected ways. With a significant memorial for Susanna on the horizon, a dramatic reunion is sure to ensue.
Sex and Sensuality: The show, being a teen and young adult series, touches on themes of sexuality and intimacy, but it does so in a tasteful, implicit manner.
Closing Scene: Belly walks home from a college party, under dim streetlights, after discovering Jeremiah’s connection with someone else while he was away in Cabo during spring break.
Standout Character: Rain Spencer as Taylor balances between discomfort and affection, providing much-needed advice as Belly navigates her complicated relationship dynamics with her ex, Stephen.
Memorable Quote: “My mother always said she found her soulmate in college, but I was lucky: I was already finding mine,” Belly reflects during the premiere, as she embraces Jeremiah.
Our Recommendation: Stream it. The youthful series continues to explore the love triangle among childhood friends as they step into adulthood.
