Watch It or Pass On It?

The new thriller is a bit of a mystery right from the start. It doesn’t reveal much about the characters or their roles in the story, keeping viewers on their toes. Columbia is distributing this 20-episode series, but don’t expect everything to unfold quickly.

Opening Scene: We’re introduced to the workplace of prominent therapists in a sleek building in Bogota. One therapist has written “I’m sorry” on the window before jumping to his death onto a car below.

Key Details: The therapist who fell had been counseling Silvia and Lorenzo. In their early sessions, misunderstandings emerge—Lorenzo’s strong sexual appetite isn’t met by Silvia. Still, he believes love can help them tackle their issues.

Things change when they visit Lorenzo’s family estate. While there, Silvia questions Lorenzo’s needs in their intimacy, suggesting an experiment that raises tension—she even offers to wear a belt during their encounter. However, their moment gets interrupted by a knock; it’s Sonia, Silvia’s friend from a recent retreat. Though each is dealing with marital problems, Silvia views Sonia as a casual buddy. She’s taken aback that Sonia knows her home address.

Sonia claims she’s escaping her abusive husband, but later that night, she makes a call saying, “I’m in.” The next day, while out shopping with Silvia, she seems to connect with someone involved in some larger scheme.

Both Silvia and Lorenzo are public figures—she’s a celebrated cellist, and he’s running for Attorney General. A magazine feature on him raises his profile, complicating their dynamic, especially with their rebellious teenage daughter Isa. Lorenzo participates in a viral Instagram challenge at the expense of family gatherings.

Similar Shows: The show brings to mind a recent BBC series, though they aren’t connected. It also evokes memories of Netflix thrillers by Harlan Coben, like Just a Look and Deceive Me Once.

Our Thoughts: Created by Lina Uribe and Dario Vanega, this thriller takes its time unfolding. It mixes elements of political intrigue and sensuality in a way that’s reminiscent of modern telenovelas. Though the first episode is revealing in some ways, it still leaves a lot unsaid.

We sense that there’s more to the relationship between Silvia and Sonia—perhaps shared experiences that are deeper than they appear. Sonia’s motives might be more sinister than just friendship, especially since she seems to be entwined in a larger scheme against the couple. There’s an underlying tension; Sonia’s aware of Lorenzo’s desires and may look to exploit them.

It’s still unclear how Isa fits into the mix. The viral challenges could bring complications for her, and the connection to Sonia remains vague but could become clearer as the episodes unfold.

Sex and Skin: The first episode has its share of intimacy, and there’s likely more to come.

Closing Scene: At a dinner with Lorenzo’s parents, Sonia touches Silvia intimately, hinting at their past closeness.

Sleeper Star: Kami Zea shines as Isa, a teenager who avoids the common tropes of being just a nerd or overly sexualized.

Notable Pilot Line: Sonia surprises Silvia with breakfast, and when Lorenzo skips out, Sonia’s words suggest that there’s more than just food on her mind.

Our Recommendation: Stream it. We think this thriller will keep ramping up the drama as the season progresses, and we appreciate its slow-burn approach to storytelling.
