In a speech at the Munich Security Conference, Vice President JD Vance scolded European leaders for allowing them to erode their rights to free speech.
The Vice President on Thursday mentioned alleged terrorist attacks in Munich. There, Afghan citizens allegedly plunged their cars into a crowd of union members during a demonstration. Approximately 30 people were injured, including some children. The two were seriously injured.
“We have to do more than talk about democratic values. We have to live with them.”
Vance then circumcides towards what he said, a major threat to democracy around the world, especially in Europe.
“The threat I most worry about Europe is not Russia. It's not China. It's not other outside actors,” Vance said.
“What I'm worried about is the threat from within, the European setback from some of its most fundamental values, the values shared with the US,” he added. “Now I sounded happy that a former European commissioner had recently appeared on television and the Romanian government had just invalidated the entire election.
Vance mentioned it comment From former EU Commissioner Thierry Breton, who said the election results in Romania were invalidated due to foreign interference from Russia.
“Now, these Cavalier statements are shocking America's ears. For years, everything we fund and support is in the name of our shared democratic values. It has been said that there is. From Ukrainian policies to digital censorship, everything is being called for the defense of democracy. However, European courts are threatening to cancel elections and cancel others. Looking, we should ask that we are properly elevated ourselves, “He added.
“We have to do more than talk about democratic values. We have to live through them,” Vance said.
He continued to cite the cold warfare against the Soviet Union, claiming that those engaged in censorship were on the wrong side of history.
“Thank God for losing the Cold War,” he continued. “They lost because they didn't cherish or respect all of the extraordinary blessings of freedom. They were surprised, they were the freedom to make mistakes, invent, and build.”
He also cited many examples of various countries that have shut down free speech, including the closure of anti-feminist comments online and the conviction of Christian activists who burned the Quran. And in the UK, a Christian man was arrested for quietly praying in front of an abortion clinic.
“So today I'm not just going to observe, I'm going to give it an offer and come here,” Vance said.
“The Trump administration will do the exact opposite, just as the Biden administration seemed desperate to silence people to speak their hearts. We hope we can cooperate with it,” he concluded. . “There is a new sheriff in town in Washington. [President] Donald Trump's leadership, we may disagree with your opinion, but we fight to defend your right to provide your rights in the public square.
Vance received some calm applause at that point from an audience of global leaders.
He also denounced the leaders for allowing mass immigration scale and the consequences of the Shelter Act. Here he cited the attacks on German citizens, which police still investigate.
“How many times do you need to suffer from these horrible set times before changing courses and leading shared civilizations in new directions?” he asked rhetorically. “Voters on this continent never went to the ballot box and opened the locks to millions of uninhabited immigrants.”
Vance concluded his speech by warning his leaders to listen to the wisdom of their individual constituents and praise the shared democratic values.
The Trump administration is in talks with Russia calling for an end to the Ukrainian War at the time of Vance's comments in Europe.
