House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y.) will hold a weekly press conference Thursday morning. This is because House GOP plans to avoid government closures next month appear to be planted in rocky soil.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and a Republican, won a major victory by passing a budget resolution in an astounding late-night vote on Tuesday night. But they now face the next step in a series of high stakes that can carry out or break efforts to push President Trump's legislative agenda to the finish line.
Jeffries and House Democrats vowed to use the March 14 funding deadline as a weapon against the actions of the Trump administration that destroyed the federal program, leading to thousands of layoffs across the federal government, and attempted to dismantle key agencies or departments.
The press conference comes as Senate Republicans who announced their own spending plans are considering overhauling sub-room budget resolutions before throwing support behind the agreement.
Jeffries' remarks are expected to begin at 11am ET.
