‘Watch Your Six:’ San Antonio Firefighters Warned About Tren de Aragua Gang Activity

San Antonio firefighters were warned by union leaders to 'watch out for the Six' after an increase in criminal activity by the Venezuelan gang Torren de Aragua on the city's north side. .

The San Antonio Firefighters Association (SAPFFA) sent an email to its members warning them to “keep your head spinning and watch out for the 6” (KSAT News) reported. SAFFFA President Joe Jones told local news outlets that the button-up uniforms of firefighters and paramedics resemble those of San Antonio police officers, and that this could put members at risk of gang violence. He said he was concerned.

“Despite the City's assertion that there is 'no credible threat to public safety,' there are a number of safety concerns regarding the ongoing operations south of 5-0 (5th Battalion),” Jones said. I wrote this in an email to members. “We know they're here, but this is a concentrated presence. This is a concentration of activity and an increase in activity,” Jones told KSAT.

Union leaders expressed concerns about an apartment building a few blocks north of the San Antonio Immigrant Resource Center. His goal is to effectively communicate the warning to all members of the union.

In response to a request for comment from KSAT, the City of San Antonio said:

Suspected and known gang activity in the San Antonio area is being handled by SAPD. Coordination with SAFD is part of our daily work. SAPD has taken and will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of the public and the safety of first responders. We work closely with local, state, and federal agencies to identify threats and develop strategic operations aimed at mitigating gang influence and protecting City residents. Public safety is our top priority.

The San Antonio Fire Union's action comes in the wake of Texas Governor Greg Abbott's recent designation of the Torren de Aragua Gang as a foreign terrorist organization. In a recent interview with Breitbart Texas, the governor said:

If you look at the historical analysis (TdA) written about them, you will see that they are in business. they are trying to make money. And what they realize is, if they're coming to Texas, they're losing money. In Texas, this is a loss and you will find yourself having to take your business elsewhere.

Abbott told Breitbart that Torren de Aragua operates in El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and the Rio Grande Valley border region. In addition to the foreign terrorist organization designation, Mr. Abbott also offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of TdA gang members.

“Our goal is to make sure they are found, identified, located, apprehended and locked up,” Abbott said in an interview Friday.
