West Hollywood Faces Another Water Main Break

West Hollywood has been hit by another round of flooding.

Around 6 a.m. on Thursday, a significant water main break occurred near Laurel Hardware, at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Laurel Avenue, covering the road with water.

This latest incident is located about two miles from a major water main break on Sunset Boulevard that had caused immense disruption just a week prior. Fortunately, the impact this time seems less severe than last week’s incident.

Officials indicated that the recent break is not thought to be connected to the earlier situation on Sunset Boulevard. It seems like a separate issue altogether, even though many residents may still be reeling from the previous chaos.

The flooding from last week was particularly alarming. Streets were overrun, affecting morning commuters and causing property damage, including incidents where two individuals fell into a sinkhole created by the floodwaters. Thankfully, both were safe.

Footage from the area captured the sight of floodwaters inundating streets and vehicles. Witnesses reported extensive water in underground garages and difficult conditions for many drivers.

During the storm, the mayor emphasized that the older infrastructure, some pipes dating back over 100 years, has been a major factor in these repeated incidents. Mayor Karen Bass mentioned that the real challenge falls on morning commuters who still face disruptions.

Mayor John Heilman confirmed that all residents are reportedly safe. In a conversation about the flooding, he described the situation as “significant,” noting that city officials are proactively checking on buildings and residents affected by the recent flood.

“Many people are understandably shocked,” Heilman remarked. He described the damage done to personal vehicles and properties, as residents work to assess and tackle the necessary repairs.

Efforts to repair the sinkhole and affected pipes are currently underway.
