Maxine Waters Calls for 25th Amendment Discussion Regarding Trump

Representative Maxine Waters, a Democrat from California, has recently advocated for the invocation of the 25th Amendment concerning President Donald Trump. This call to action arose amid discussions surrounding the removal of Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve’s Board.

Waters stated, “It’s important to address the question of his eligibility. The 25th Amendment is a tool that highlights issues with this presidency. We need to be proactive and discuss the risks posed to our nation and democracy; it’s one of the most harmful things he can do.”

Cook was dismissed by Trump on Monday, who claimed she had misrepresented her mortgage information. Waters expressed concern, saying, “The implications of this move could disrupt the entire economy, impacting Wall Street, interest rates, and the ability of the president to make decisions that could personally benefit him.”

Additionally, Cook has since launched a lawsuit against Trump, arguing that the dismissal lacks legal cause and seeking a restraining order to secure her position on the Fed. This situation is likely to escalate, possibly reaching the Supreme Court, indicating a growing conflict between the White House and the Federal Reserve.

During a panel discussion on MSNBC, host Symone Sanders-Townsend reflected on Waters’ remarks about the 25th Amendment. “It’s surprising to hear a congresswoman propose this, but the president seems to be navigating through a series of challenges,” she noted.

In the ongoing conversation, Debbie Wasserman Schultz commented that Trump might prefer to dismiss Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell but recognizes the political risks involved. “What he’s attempting with Lisa Cook is part of a much larger strategy,” she explained, suggesting that Trump’s actions reflect his desire to have more control over the Federal Reserve’s policy-making.
