Wayne Johnson defeated Chuck Hand in the Republican primary runoff to represent Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District and is seeking to defeat the incumbent Democrat in November’s general election.

Johnson and Hand were the top two vote-getters in Georgia’s May 21 primary but advanced to a runoff after neither reached the 50% threshold required by state election law.

Throughout her campaign, Johnson touted her work as chief executive officer of the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid Administration under former President Trump.
Mr. Hand, a construction foreman from rural Butler County who was convicted of participating in the Jan. 6 protests, ran a campaign that touted his working-class credentials and focused on the economy. Mr. Hand made waves earlier this month when he walked out of a televised debate with Mr. Johnson, accusing him of orchestrating an attack on his wife because he doesn’t live in his district.
Johnson will now face off against Rep. Sanford Bishop Jr., the Democrat who has represented the district since 1993.
