‘We Are in a Fight for Our Democracy Right Now’

Sen. Sheldon White House (D-RI) said Sunday on ABC's “this week” that President Donald Trump's second term became “a battle for our democracy.”

Partial transcripts as follows:

Martha Raddaz: Let's talk about Senator Schumer. He didn't want the government to be shut down because he felt it wasn't good for Democrats either. So, what about your reaction to what he did, and how will Democrats deal with it now?

White House: I think he and my other nine colleagues who made that decision have made it, after a lot of reflection, have made a very conscientious and principled decision. For the choices they made, I'm not going to throw any of them under the bus. Understanding how dangerous a shutdown is, it makes sense even more why they feel that way. And I think all we have to do is stop the in-wall combat and bleeding as soon as possible. We are now fighting for our democracy. And if we're fighting in the dugout, we're not on the field, so the other teams are running. So everyone needs to speak up. Everyone needs to know that they respond to their passions and emotions. But as soon as possible we returned to the field and began fighting Trump, Musk and Maga.
