During an appearance on FNC's “MediaBuzz” this week, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) declared her pro-life stance. But she repeatedly criticized the Republican Party and its response to abortion.
“There's been a lot of enthusiasm, especially from the right, saying Republicans have to change the way they talk about abortion,” FNC host Howard Kurtz said.
“Absolutely, absolutely, and we continue to lose the fight over abortion every day. Being pro-life, and me being pro-life, is the way forward with compassion, and with compassion.” We all know it's policy. But we're losing this battle because we don't have compassion for women. We show it in their faces. They're throwing it back. Look at the Texas decision. It's a very emotional decision. Most women, the majority, agree with women having babies with trisomy 18. Texas commission. “That she should have the choice to decide what to do, not the state or the bureaucrats, is very intimate and very important. It's a difficult decision for a woman to make.”
“We can't even talk about birth control,” Mace continued. “I mean, I can't even talk about contraception. If we want to get serious about reducing the number of abortions in this country, we need to talk about how we can make contraception more accessible to women. People I say it's no big deal. There are 14 in my home state of South Carolina. [counties] There is not a single obstetrician-gynecologist in the entire state. How can they access it? ”
