HBO dropped the trailer for “Salem’s Lot” Thursday, one of the most chilling stories in modern history.
If you can separate Stephen King’s all-out progressive insanity on social media from his novels, then separate his novels from their adaptations, do we have a treat for you! One of King’s more infamous titles is coming to the small screen just in time for spooky season.
“Salem’s Lot” comes to us from “It” franchises’ Gary Dauberman, according to Deadline. It doesn’t sound like the plot has strayed too far from King’s 1975 text, which follows author Ben Mears (portrayed by Lewis Pullman) as he returns to his childhood home, Jerusalem’s Lot.
Mears thinks he’s in search of his next book. As cheesy as it sounds, he soon discovers a vampire is preying upon his hometown. Yes, I know, it sounds dorky as heck. But trust me, it is very scary. (RELATED: Child Found Buried With ‘Anti-Vampire’ Padlock, Face Down In Dirt)
Pullman is joined on screen by Alfre Woodard, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Spencer Treat Clark, Pilou Asbæk and John Benjamin Hickey, none of whom I’ve heard of before today, but all of whom I’ve seen time and time again. I’ve never been disappointed!

“Salem’s Lot” was King’s second novel, following the always-unsettling “Carrie.” From the trailer alone, it looks like more of a jump-scare and “screaming ‘no’ at the screen” type movie. Dauberman’s other works, such as “Annabelle” and “The Nun” are also absolutely terrifying, for sure, but they were also good films. While I’m not the biggest horror movie fan, the overall storytelling from both King and Dauberman is what I’m most looking forward too. And a few chills!
“Salem’s Lot” premiers Oct. 3.
