An Alaska mother left a chilling voicemail for her 5-year-old son's father after allegedly killing him with his 20-pound body. “We don't have a son anymore,” he told her cruelly.
Cedar Mae Surtain, 43, is accused of killing her young boy, Bodhi, in her Fairbanks apartment on October 13th, then leaving numerous messages confessing to her ex-partner. . Law and Crime Reported.
According to court documents, Sartain told the boy's father, Robert Gagner, “Robert, this is really bad and you seriously need to get here right now.”
“Don't panic,” she reportedly said. “We don't have a son anymore.”
Authorities say Sarten is accused of beating her son to death with a kettlebell weight shortly after his father dropped him off at their apartment as part of a custody arrangement, then stabbing his son repeatedly with a knife shortly afterward.
The mother, who has a lengthy rap sheet that includes charges of reckless endangerment against her son, allegedly attempted suicide before calling 911 on her ex-girlfriend.
“[Sarten] “She called 911 to report that someone had 'impacted' her son's brain with a 20-pound weight,” court documents state.
“The defendant stated that her son was definitely dead. In response to the dispatcher's question about what happened, the defendant stated that she did not know. She said the last time she saw her son alive was It happened around 2 a.m., when her son had fallen asleep in her arms, she said.
Officials said first responders found the boy's lifeless body on a bed inside an apartment.
Meanwhile, Sartain was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries.
From her hospital bed, Sartain sent another voicemail to the boy's father: “I know you're furious with me because he died on my watch.” It is said that he left it behind.
“I called you, okay. I called you. I knew something was wrong. I'm not blaming you. I'm just saying,” she said. He is said to have said.
A GoFundMe page set up by the boy's loved ones describes him as “the kindest, kindest” child who “just wanted to play and be a kid.”
“He always had the biggest smile on his face and could talk up a storm. He loved swinging and playing in his favorite park and always asked his friends from school to play on the playground. I was inviting you,” the page says.
“He loved cheese pizza (his favorite food in the world) and mozzarella sticks. Popsicles were also a big hit. He loved going camping with his dad and spending time outside.”
Surtain remains hospitalized and was charged with first-degree murder on Monday.
