Connecticut Attorney General Critiques Supreme Court on National Injunction
On Friday’s episode of CNN’s “Laura Coates Live,” Connecticut Attorney General William Tong (D) expressed his thoughts on the Supreme Court’s handling of a national injunction related to birthright citizenship. He argued that it was inappropriate for the Court to impose rulings that could differ significantly across states.
Tong mentioned that, “There are valid points on both sides regarding national injunctions. Occasionally, they can be misused or overstepped. For instance, I recall when Judge Kakusmalik attempted to issue a national injunction against Mifepristone in Texas, or when there was an effort to overturn significant gun regulations under a nationwide ruling. Those situations demonstrate a desire for broad application. Yes, we’ve criticized the frequent use of such injunctions by the opposing party, and we recognize the need for a deeper discussion about their role.”
He added, “In this situation, I believe the Supreme Court erred. New Jersey was at the forefront of this debate. Did they just overlook that fact a couple of days later?”
