Sen. Rick Scott Discusses Support for Farmers
During a recent episode of NewsNation’s “The Hill,” Senator Rick Scott from Florida addressed inquiries regarding assistance for farmers. He emphasized the importance of helping farmers and the community, stating, “We have to do everything we can to help our farmers and help our people.” He also mentioned the need to consider what is truly necessary for the situation.
Host Blake Berman raised the issue of a potential $200 billion relief package, asking if the farming community requires any form of support. Scott responded by saying, “I think we have to do everything we can to help farmers and help our people. No one wants gas prices to rise, which can be devastating for families, particularly those who are struggling.” He added that maintaining freedoms and keeping energy prices low are essential, while also considering strategies for lowering energy costs post-crisis. He expressed hope that if democracy could be established in Venezuela, it would yield more oil and gas over time, although the short term might be challenging.
Berman then questioned where the limit might lie in terms of supporting different groups within the agricultural sector, noting that Republicans typically avoid choosing “winners and losers.” Scott responded by reinforcing the need for self-sufficiency in food production in America. “We must ensure that our resources remain here,” he articulated, emphasizing the importance of supporting the country’s free enterprise system. He encouraged Americans to prioritize buying domestic products to reduce dependence on foreign nations.
