We Need to Make Sure the Kids Eat

On Monday, President Donald Trump emphasized the importance of feeding children in Gaza, pointing out that Hamas is allegedly diverting significant humanitarian aid.

During a bilateral press conference in Turnberry, Scotland, Trump and British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer addressed the Gaza crisis, highlighting issues concerning hungry children, Hamas’s unwillingness to release the remaining Israeli hostages, and the urgent need for a ceasefire.

“Our priority is to feed the children before moving on to the next phase,” Trump stated to reporters.

“We contributed $60 million a week ago, all designated for food. I really hope it reaches those who need it. Unfortunately, you see, aid often gets intercepted by Hamas or others,” he continued.

Trump emphasized that both the US and its allies “must assist on a humanitarian level before taking further action,” reiterating, “we need to ensure our children are fed.”

He also had a constructive conversation with Ursula von der Leyen from the European Commission about humanitarian aid, mentioning that the European Union is set to play a significant role in these efforts.

Trump highlighted the challenges posed by Hamas, specifically noting their refusal to let go of the remaining Israeli hostages. “It’s a slow process; you get some released, then it halts. They use the last few as shields, complicating any negotiations,” he explained. “Israelis are very concerned about the hostages.” He mentioned ongoing discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding plans for the hostages.

Starmer echoed the call for humanitarian support and a ceasefire, aligning his sentiments with Trump’s at the meeting’s outset. “We both agree a ceasefire is critical. We need to ramp up humanitarian aid, and we appreciate what you’re already doing. Your involvement is essential to resolve this,” he remarked.

Starmer pointed to the need to not only address the immediate ceasefire but also to ensure humanitarian aid is delivered quickly and in adequate amounts.

On Sunday, Netanyahu dismissed claims that Israel is implementing a starvation tactic in Gaza, labeling such accusations as “bold-faced lies.” He insisted that Hamas is responsible for obstructing aid. “The truth has been twisted,” he insisted.
