Rivals between Canada and the US were energized after Canadian fans booed the US national anthem.

Even Canadian forward Brad Merchand commented on the booing, saying the player “has nothing to do with the political affairs going on.”
Although Marchand was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, he played his entire career with the Boston Bruins.
He then added, “I feel bad for those people at the moment. I don't think that's right.”

Saturday's fight took North America by storm when it began with three fights in the first nine seconds. Canada quickly rose 1-0, but Team USA returned for a 3-1 victory.
According to the New York Times, the broadcast averaged 4.4 million viewers, with a peak of 5.2 million viewers. This has been a larger audience than the non-Stanley Cup games in the NHL since 2019, far more than the 766,000 viewers who watched the battle between the two countries at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey .
