On Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom” broadcast Wednesday, Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) said Democrats “publicly speculating on cable news is not the right way to have this discussion” about whether President Joe Biden is fit for the presidency and whether he is the best candidate to win. He said that regardless of who the nominee is, campaigning “has to become a team sport going forward. Governing is a team sport. The president has a great Cabinet around him. And campaigning right now should be a team sport.”
“I don’t think public speculation on cable news is the right way to have this conversation. The right way to have this conversation is for elected officials to talk directly to President Biden and have an honest, tough conversation about the best path forward to defeat Donald Trump in November, because that’s an issue that unites not just Democrats, but a majority of Americans,” Auchincloss said. “If the president had performed strongly, the takeaway from the debate would have been that Donald Trump is refusing to distance himself from Project 2025, which, by the way, is going to politicize the federal bureaucracy, it’s going to politicize not just Homeland Security but Social Security. I think voters need to understand that their Social Security checks are going to be signed by Donald Trump and may have some strings attached under his new administration.”
He added, “Fifty million Americans watched the debate. They are genuinely concerned, and whatever decision the president makes, it needs to become a team sport going forward. Governing is a team sport. The president has a great Cabinet around him. And now campaigning needs to become a team sport, too. We’ve got rising stars like Pete Buttigieg talking about infrastructure and the economy, Gina Raimondo talking about manufacturing and competing with China, and Kamala Harris putting on her prosecutor’s hat and thoroughly criticizing the fact that Donald Trump lies, on average. [once every] “For 90 seconds and for the lawlessness that has repelled a nation that values law and order. We have strong people not only at the top of the candidate but around the candidate who can be strong advocates.”
