‘We Wanted to See That’

Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson has praised former President Donald Trump's show of strength after the assassination attempt in July, saying Americans “wanted to see” him stand up, raise his fist and shout “Fight!” repeatedly after being shot.

Johnson spoke about Trump while attending Patrick Bett David's The Vault conference in Florida last week. Jumanji The star spoke about the July 13 assassination attempt that nearly took President Trump's life.

“It doesn't matter if you like Donald or hate him, they tried to assassinate him and that's unacceptable,” he said. “Despite who we were in that moment, I believe in my heart that that's not who our country is.”

“So we wanted to see him rise to the occasion.”

Trump's defiant fist pump seems destined to become one of the defining moments of the 2024 presidential campaign and go down as one of the most iconic images in modern political history.

Johnson reminisced about his time as a professional wrestler, saying Trump would often attend his matches at Madison Square Garden.

“It was amazing,” the actor said. “The first time I met him he said, 'Show me your eyebrows.'”

Johnson recently said he would not publicly endorse any presidential candidate this year, and in a sign of his current tendencies, he said in April, “Am I happy with the state of America right now? The answer is no.”

His decision came after he endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020.
