We Warned About Extreme Weather Events Increasing

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday on MSNBC's “The Ana Cabrera Report” warned those who feel the federal government's response to Hurricane Helen was inadequate, warning that the number of extreme weather events is increasing. He said he was warning about.

“So it sounds like you're still in search-and-rescue mode,” Cabrera said. “Residents in some of these affected communities say they feel the local and federal governments have been put in an unfair position. We want to know your reaction to what we're hearing.

North Carolina's Ricky Brown said: They don't care about us. You know what I mean, they care more about the damn election and all that than they care about the people who lost everything. ”

Cabrera said: Mr. Secretary, how do you respond to that? Should the federal government have been better prepared to go into these isolated areas?”

Mayorkas said: “Well, our top priority is the well-being of people. This is extremely important and we are acting accordingly. We are seeing extreme weather events continue to increase in frequency and severity. We've been talking about the fact that Hurricane Helen is destroying the landscape on an unprecedented scale, and we're responding accordingly. People are safe because we're by their side. Please be careful.”
