We Will Fight Until Our People Are Safe

Israeli government spokesman David Mensah told reporters on Monday that progress on a ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon is in line with Israel's security demands to allow Israelis evacuated from border areas to return to their homes. He said it was on.

Media reports are rife with speculation about progress toward a ceasefire. The United States offered Lebanon a cease-fire last week, but Iran, which supplies arms and funds to Hezbollah, is set on reaching a deal to end the war that has decimated Iran's military and terrorist capabilities. He seems to agree with Lebanon.

The agreement reportedly includes a return to the 2006 United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the Second Lebanon War. The resolution calls for Hezbollah to withdraw from the border north of the Litani River and also calls for Hezbollah to disarm. However, this resolution has never been enforced by either the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) or the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping forces.

The new ceasefire proposal reportedly includes provisions for enforcement, including Israel's right to cross into Lebanon in the future to protect itself from Hezbollah and remove Israel from its borders if necessary. It is said that it includes a new mechanism.

Navi Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament said This clause remains a sticking point in negotiations between the parties.

Asked about progress during a daily briefing by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Mensah said:

“When it comes to Lebanon, you know that our objective is to bring our people home, to stop the rocket firing, the mortar fire, the drones.

“So when it comes to negotiating a ceasefire in Lebanon, the United States and other countries are leading the negotiations for a quiet return to the north.

“But let me be clear: military operations will continue until the immediate threat from Lebanon is removed and our people, who are Israelis living in their own sovereign territory, can safely return home. ” That is when the conflict will end in our north, not some time before. ”

It is unclear whether the Biden-Harris administration's special envoy to Lebanon, Amos Hochstein, will return to the region this week.

President-elect Donald Trump's unofficial special envoy to Lebanon is Massad Bouras, a Lebanese-American businessman who led the Trump campaign's support efforts for Arab Americans. President Trump has promised to quickly end the war in Lebanon.
