Attack on Vice President J.D. Vance’s Home

A 26-year-old man reportedly attacked Vice President J.D. Vance’s residence in Cincinnati early Monday morning. This incident occurred shortly after the vice president had left for Washington, D.C., following a local tour.

Secret Service agents noticed a suspect carrying a hammer near the home’s fence. The individual, William DeFoor, tried to break into a U.S. Secret Service vehicle blocking the driveway and then proceeded to smash a window at Vance’s residence, which appeared to be protected with enhanced security measures.

Witnesses described the situation, with one stating, “It looks like some crazy person tried to break in.” After causing damage estimated at over $28,000, DeFoor attempted to escape but was soon apprehended by Secret Service and local police.

Initially, he was charged with trespassing, damaging or endangering property, and obstructing the official business, but he has since been indicted on several federal charges. These include destruction of government property and assaulting federal officers.

Vance commented, “As far as I can tell, a madman tried to break in by banging on the windows,” following the incident.

On social media, DeFoor, also identified as Julia, had previously expressed support for left-leaning groups and transgender advocacy. It seems he had a notable academic background, having studied at various institutions, including Cincinnati State Technical Community College.

He has a history of troubles, including a guilty plea in April 2025 for causing damage at a design firm in Ohio, which earned him a two-year mental health treatment sentence and a restitution order. Additionally, in 2023, he faced charges related to trespassing but was deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial.

According to reports, DeFoor’s father is a wealthy pediatric urologist affiliated with the University of Cincinnati, with a history of significant political donations to Democratic campaigns.

The ongoing situation has prompted discussions on mental health and violence, illustrating a troubling intersection of personal issues and public safety.
