A pet store in New Jersey has been exposed to a string of crimes in recent weeks, in one case, with an expensive bird stolen from the business and its owner shooting in the face with a crossbow arrow.

Authorities arrested 53-year-old Raymond M. Carrey from Hasbroke Heights, New Jersey, on Tuesday on charges including attempted murder. said in a statement.

The victim was identified as Katarina Lukavishnikova, owner of the birds of Joe 2 on Route 46, Saddle Brook, New Jersey. NBC4 reported.

Police responded to a 911 call on Monday before 6pm, reporting a woman seriously injured in a pet store. Responding officers discover that the woman was shot in the face with a crossbow arrow and that the suspect escaped from a scene in his car.

After being shot, the woman was able to disarm the attacker and run for the help of a nearby business. Authorities said the woman was treated in the hospital for “severe injuries.”

Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office's main crime department and Saddlebrook Police Department have conducted a manhunt with support from several other agencies in the area, including the FBI.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect through video surveillance, license plate readers and interviews with witnesses, according to criminal charges obtained by Fox News Digital.

Within 24 hours of the attack, Carrie was arrested in Pine Beach, New Jersey, around 1pm Tuesday. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for illegal purposes, and fourth-degree obstructing control of the law, and he is awaiting his first court appearance.

This was not the first crime that the owner of the bird by Joe 2 has suffered in recent weeks.

“He's a repeat customer. He shot me without warning,” Lukavishnikova told a local outlet about the crossbow attack. “He didn't say anything.”

Joe 2 birds caught the bird incident on surveillance cameras and posted photos of the stolen parrot on social media. Authorities recovered the bird earlier this month, the business announced on its Instagram account.

“Our African Grey has been returned to us! I'm grateful that everyone shared our posts and washed them out online and reached out,” Joe 2's Bird wrote in the post. .

Saddle Brook police said a warrant has been issued for Patterson resident Onix Calderon, 24, who was arrested for theft of a parrot.

“Based on the findings of this investigation, detectives determined that yesterday's theft and crossbow case were unrelated,” the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office told Fox News Digital.
